Adopt a Pet
Adopt or Foster One and Help Save Them All
Due to the pandemic, we are changing how we do things. Unfortunately, there are not any adoption events at this time. When Pet Food Express begins allowing them, we will restart them. Currently, there is NO WAY TO MEET dogs you are interested in before filling out an application. We are inundated with people wanting to apply during these time, and cannot accommodate them all. We are still requiring home checks, volunteers are happy to accommodate as much as possible with masking, spending most of the time outside and social distancing (as allowable), but no we will not do the home check via zoom. We understand some people may not be comfortable with this, but again, many more people are interested in adopting than we have dogs/puppies for, so we will run the risk. We want to keep our fosters, potential adopters and dogs health into consideration, but simply are not willing to forgo seeing living situations. Also, some dogs may be on foster-to-adopt contract if we are unable to get spayed and neutered due to those closures as well. This happens rarely as we try to work with many clinics to save us the trouble. We will let you know this is the case before scheduling a home check.

* COVID UPDATE*
Due to the pandemic, we are changing how we do things. Unfortunately, there are not any adoption events at this time. When Pet Food Express begins allowing them, we will restart them. *Standard Procedures* We require all applicants have a home check, for this reason, we will only adopt to families in the Sacramento region. Oftentimes we get requests to meet our adoptables before applications are put in or on same day. Please be aware, our volunteers work full time jobs and devote their free time to helping homeless animals. If you want to meet dogs before applying or you are unsure if an animal would be a good fit, you would need to come to one of our adoption events. During homechecks, our volunteers are looking to make sure the home is a safe environment and that there is a secure area outside with solid fencing. Also, most homechecks are scheduled for nights and weekends, and often emails may not be responded to immediately (especially on weekends when a house full of foster dogs and home checks and vet appointments mean no time to sit down)
Our Application Process requires the following things
1. Dog Adoption Application
(Click on the pink link above to fill out the app or email adoptions@recycledpetsnorcal.org for any questions you may have. Please only submit one application, if you are interested in multiple dogs, email us for your questions.)
2. Home check (either done after you meet the dog or concurrently). Please make sure any outdoor area where the dog will be kept has secure fencing.
3. Adoption Contract
4. Adoption fee (adoption fees are posted on the dog’s profile)
All dogs will be microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated (on schedule so you may need to continue with these) and spayed/neutered before adoption. Please be prepared to allow your new pet a few weeks to become used to his/her new surroundings and life. All dogs are different and it can take different amounts of time for them to acclimate into their new environment. Be patient and you will be rewarded with a lifetime of love from your new best friend.
